Artist Commentary: I spent Saturday in the eastern deserts beyond the Sea of Rhûn. Among eerie rocks and escarpments, I pitched my easel and awaited the sun’s setting. As the last orange rays brushed rocky heights, a solitary figure with a jewel-bedecked staff appeared along the path. He cast a longing look westward in the gloaming, and the blue crystal atop his staff blazed as darkness descended.
