In the Emperor’s Palace

13_11_514_In_the_emperors_palace_enh_800 “In the Emperor’s Palace

Oil on canvas, 13″x21″ wide.

Artist Commentary:

On Saturday I dreamt that I stood in a palace above the sea, overlooking waters that rippled gently in a summer breeze. Jade and emerald waves lapped lazily at the palace steps, and their colour was mirrored in a sky awash in delicate pink clouds. Away to the east the dawn was breaking, and as I breathed the fragrant air, I was reminded of a golden morn when I was yet a child and the world itself was young.

I leaned against a pillar as the sun, indescribably large, poured its light into the palace. And while I stood transfixed, I glimpsed a
great lion nearby. His golden mane sparkled in the dawn, and he was attended by an old man in grey, cloaked, and leaning upon a wooden staff. It was clear that these were old friends, overjoyed to find themselves once more in the Emperor’s palace. And, although I sought not to listen, nevertheless their voices floated through the sunlit air like the notes of some great symphony; the gentle tones of the old wizard a counterpoint to the rumblings, like thunder, of the great lion king.
