Agreed about Burroughs. I read the first three John Carter books when I found out the movie was getting made. They’re fun but shouldn’t be read back to back.
As for Kirk, he’s really good at the ghost story. Always keeps it small and explores some rather interesting territory. There is a collection called Ancestral Shadows that I stumbled on at a Bargain Books once. Originals are hard to come by and very pricey!

Thanks for the great feedback! And, no, I don’t believe I have read Kirk’s tales. Oddly enough, I don’t read an enormous amount of modern fiction…I mainly stick with folks like William Morris, Walter Scott, and even (of late) Edgar Rice Burroughs (although the latter is really just for giggles, as his stories are always engaging but his writing style is nothing to write home about).
