Oil on canvas, 13″x21″ wide.

Artist Commentary:

I spent the day on the shores of Nevrast, hiking the slopes of Mount Taras, and nigh unto the weathered ruins of Turgon’s great city. Evening approached, and as I sought shelter in the windswept Hall, I descried a figure below me upon the seastrand: one of the Noldor, he seemed, or else some great champion of the Atani.

But then, out at sea, I saw clouds pile high as the sun sank, and blood-red was the sky stained as wind and waves roiled. And whilst I observed the heaving sea, a great wave arose from her depths. Forth it rushed, and just ere it crested, a fell figure stood forth from the foam.

Wielding a great staff, and clad in a billowing emerald cloak, this god-like being strode towards the warrior upon the beach and, remaining knee-high in the surf, spoke unto him. What words passed between the two I could not tell above the roar of wind and rising tempest, but I knew that these signs heralded the coming of some great doom upon these lands.
