Dawn Treader

“Dawn Treader”
Oil on canvas, 13″x21″ wide.

Artist Commentary: This past week I sailed well the Lone Islands and came at last, just at dusk, to a desolate spot of land swimming in empty seas. Great pale mountains loomed, rocky and forbidding, yet as I found a sheltering bay, I discovered that I was not alone. A large ship, green and fashioned in the shape of a great dragon, was anchored in the bay; her single purple sail was set, yet she was anchored tight and listed gently in the night breezes.

I pulled my skiff to shore as darkness fell, and after a quick meal, I set up my easel and began to paint the likeness of this great vessel, just as a full moon rode high in the swirling mists above us.
