Sonnet

“Sonnet”
Oil on canvas, 10″x8″ wide.

Artist Commentary: This fairy tale image features a maiden reading a book of poetry. The room seems old…perhaps in a castle? And there is a raven on a perch before her. Another figure seems to be standing beside her, looking over her shoulder. There are many curious features in the painting…dark shapes atop the bookcase, an icon and rosary on the shelves, someone’s cane leaning against the wall. What story is told by these, I leave to the viewer to discover….
