“The Argonath”
Oil on canvas, 21″x13″ wide.
Artist Commentary: The Argonath were two enormous pillars hewn of stone to resemble the shapes of two great warrior kings. These flanked the river Anduin as it swept into the northenmost regions of Gondor. The figures represented Isildur and Anárion, the two sons of Elendil who founded Gondor.
In this painting, the three Elven boats used by the eight remaining members of the Fellowship are small black shapes on the river beneath the left-most pillar.
