“Brandywine”
Oil on canvas, 13″x21″ wide.
Artist Commentary: The Baranduin river (recast as “Brandywine” by the Hobbits who lived near it) separated Buckland from the rest of the Shire. It could only be crossed readily via the Brandywine Bridge and by Buckleberry Ferry.
In this painting we’re resting with Gandalf and Frodo on a rise overlooking the river. It is a summer’s day and although there are some high clouds, the scene is one of peace and leisure…a true Shire outing through the beautiful rolling hills.
