Glenstorm’s Doughty Son

12_01_484_Glenstorms_doughty_son_enh_800

“Glenstorm’s Doughty Son”
Oil on canvas, 13″x21″ wide.

Artist Commentary: I Just returned from the western wilds, and Lo had wine ready for her tired artist returning from such a very long journey. Tells the tale that dawn broke high over the canopy of the wooded glen I sought. I paused, and the prayers of morning were marred only by what I took to be distant thunder. But, it was not so; the quaking of the earth betokened the coming of one I had always hoped to glimpse, but whom I had never thought to behold…the doughty son of the Centaur.

The Tryst

“The Tryst”
Oil on canvas, 13″x21″ wide.

Artist Commentary:I Saturday tarried in fair Lothlórien, roving the forests and gardens that encompass Cerin Amroth. Sweet the air was, and the morning mists caressed spring flowers that bloom ever in that enchanted realm. Abiding the warmth of day, I set canvas on easel near a springing span of stone, and there I sought to capture the crimsons, yellows, and blues of the bounteous bloom. While I worked, two lovers approached the bridge arm in arm, and as the sun’s rays cleared the treetops, the elf-maiden (for so she seemed) leaned into the embrace of her consort, and he kissed her hand as golden light enveloped them both.

Healing Waters

“Healing Waters”
Oil on canvas, 13″x21″ wide.

Artist Commentary: I spent Saturday on the snow-shrouded shores of the Eithel Ivrin. The peaks of Wethin arose pale above the frozen drifts, and as I painted in the pre-dawn dusk, there came from the forest one of the Fair Folk, leading a wearied warrior. They paused upon the shore, and while the mortal drank from Ivrin’s healing waters, the snowy bluffs blazed golden against the dusky Advent sky. Suddenly, a single beam of crystalline light illumined the unlikely pair, gilding them with glory; and then it was gone, like a pledge of peace left yet unfulfilled….

Home Again

Home Again”
Oil on canvas, 13″x21″ wide.

Artist Commentary: I spent Saturday in the Westfarthing. I met Mithrandir on the East Road, and we wended our way across The Water and up The Hill. Bilbo was bustling at Bag End, popping corks and stoking embers, and I begged leave to sketch the two scoundrels by the blaze of the drawing room hearth. Whilst I painted, we traded tales and tippled tea as, without, the gusty fall winds wailed.
