Vinyamar

“Vinyamar”

Artist Commentary: In the Simlarillion, Tuor, led by Ulmo’s swans, came across a ruined hall on the edge of the sea. There he found helm, shield, and armor which had been left for him. The shield bore the emblem of a White Swan’s wing, which became his emblem in Gondolin.

Ecthelion

“The Tower of Ecthelion”

Artist Commentary: The white tower of Ecthelion was built on the topmost level of Minas Tirith, and rose from the courtyard in which the White Tree grew. This was the tower from which strange lights could be seen late at night, as Denethor wrestled with the Palantir.

The Landing of Elendil

“The Landing of Elendil”
Oil on canvas, 10″x16″ wide.

Artist Commentary: Elendil, his sons Isildur and Anárion, and their supporters fled to Middle-earth at the downfall of Númenor, sailing east in nine ships and founding the realms of Arnor and Gondor in Middle-earth in S.A. 3320. They rode on the crest of a great tidal wave that resulted from the drowning of Númenor, and when their ships were deposited on dry land, all of the coasts had been changed by the sundering of the world. This painting depicts Elendil’s ship, run aground, as the stormwaters recede.
