“Alqualondë”
Oil on canvas, 16″x10″ wide.
Artist Commentary: Alqualondë was the “Haven of the Swans” on the coast of the blessed lands of the west. It was here that the fabled kinslayings occurred in the First Age. But, aside from that great tragedy, the haven was known as a beautiful refuge for ships, whose entryway was carved from solid rock that opened into the western seas.

“Adam Fallen”
Oil on canvas, 16″x10″ wide.
Artist Commentary: There is a medieval legend that, after the death of Adam, the Archangel Michael instructed Eve to plant a branch of the Tree of Knowledge on his grave. From this branch grew the tree that Solomon moved to the Temple garden. It was later discarded and thrown into the pool of Bethesda. There it remained until it was taken and fashioned into the Cross.

“Nativity”

Artist Commentary: This is a somewhat fairy tale-like image of the Virgin and Child. The imagery is medieval, as are the symbols of ox, marigold, and white rose. I was hoping for a “perfect blend” of sacred and “fairy tale” in this piece…something that could resonate my deep belief in the “True Myth” of Christianity.

“Into the West…”

Artist Commentary: The Grey Havens stood on the northwestern shore of Middle-earth, and from that harbour passed the white ships of the elves to Elvenhome. This is also the port from which Frodo, Bilbo, Gandalf, Galadriel, Elrond, and later Sam also sailed to find rest and healing.
