Roäc (The Ravens of the Lonely Mountain)“
Oil on canvas, 16″x10″ wide.
Artist Commentary: Roäc was the chief of the great ravens of the Lonely Mountain. He served as a messenger to the dwarves and Bilbo in “The Hobbit”, and brought news to them of the death of Smaug. In this image, we see Roäc and several other ravens over Lake-town, with the Lonely Mountain in the distance.

“Aslan’s Doorway”

“The Lonely Mountain”
Oil on canvas, 10″x16″ wide.
Artist Commentary: The Lonely Mountain was north of Lake-town, and became the lair of the dragon Smaug. The quest to route Smaug from this ancient home of the dwarves was the theme of The Hobbit. This painting was originally published in Mallorn No. 42 in August, 2004.
